Some Live Tools

May 08, 2006

Microsoft Live is a good place to start if you are a fan of M$. is indispensible as its virus scan will no doubt uncover some hidden threats in your WinXP. should be useful but unfortunately it only accepts registration from US residents. So unless you happen to live in the States, you have to find other alternatives. And there are quite a few useful ones.

One of the lesser known facts about Ajax or Web2.0 is that they make it possible for people to run applications without owning a computer. Traditional software requires installation on a computer and if you don’t have one, you cannot make a spreadsheet, use a word processor or use a PIM to keep track of your loved ones’ birthday and organize your daily routines. In fact, the majority of people in developing countries still do not own a computer and their accesses to computers have to be made through internet cafes, schools or friends’ homes.

With Ajax (an awesome term that may turn people off but it’s essentially an old technology made popular by Gmail and GoogleMap), we no longer need to install any software (not even plugins) before we are able to run them.
