666
June 06, 2006
Today’s date - 06/06/06.
I am not rapture-ready but 666 is often taken as the Number of the Beast which is hugely significant to its believers.
Numbers do mean quite a lot, especially for our superstitious fellow countrymen. And we do put our money where our superstitions are.
Anyone who pays tens of millions just for the right to use a specific number at the back of his car can hardly be considered sane unless, of course, he is a Chinese. Albert Yeung paid HK$13 million (US$1.7 million) in 1994 for a number 9 car registration plate in Hong Kong. Jackie Chan paled badly in comparison when he walked away with a “123” plate for only HK$1.5 million (US$192,000) in an auction a few months’ ago. (Not too badly if you consider he only donated HK$0.5 million to UNICEF after the 2004 Asia tsunami). Not sure who owns the “666” license plate in Hong Kong?
