Flickr on Desktop

July 19, 2006

I just added flickr to my desktop and it has certainly livened it up! With Lightbox, I can cycle through some stunning images from flickr right on my desktop when I am REAL bored!.

As I already have a copy of MoveableType running locally on my computer, I simply make use of MT Hacks’ FlickrPhotos plugin. Incorporate the plugin in a simple template and activate Active Desktop (Control Panel -> Display -> Desktop -> Custom Desktop -> Web -> New) to use the new MT template. That’s it.

The idea can of course be extended to other blogging software such as Wordpress which also has a number of flickr plugins.

The plugins just make it easier to configure the image display without getting your hands dirty in coding . For a simple flickr badge, just copy and paste the codes into anywhere on a web page.
