12 million gallons of Agent Orange - one of the most toxic herbicides, was sprayed over central Vietnam 35 years ago. The land cannot grow rice or fruit trees for decades. Vietnamese and US officials carried out a joint survey of the land around Da Nang’s airport last year where it was used as the main storage for the chemical during the war. Results showed that the dioxin levels there was as much as 100 times above acceptable international standards.

No We dont hate them

Compensation is out of the question and they had refused to accept responsiblity. They had even resisted the moral responsiblity to help do a clean-up of the environment. Is this American value?

How many times we have been told that some people just hate the Americans for being what they are. Maybe we just have to listen to what Truc’s mother said,”The children are like this. We don’t hate the Americans (for what they did). Just help us to give these children a life”. And there are 4 million of them.

The U.S. is only now working toward normalizing relations with Cuba. That country and those people have never harmed us.

Of our helping Vietnam, I can only suggest the U.S. government will never be able to openly support reconstruction. We will, as we often do, allow private enterprise to fund some of the essential help we should offer.

It is in the best interest of the U.S.not just to develop the economy but a friendship between two cultures. We (the U.S. and Vietnam) have share a war and more lost lives than either of us should be allowed to forget.

Thanks for dropping by.

To make a genuiue effort in cultivating friendship between two culture is, in my humble opinion, the only but sure way to defeat terrorism and to eliminate hatred. This was perhaps what Sun Tze had in mind when he said that the most skillful way to win a war was to capture the enemies without fighting.

America is such a great nation. I remember my aunt took me to a cinema for the very first time in my life - the movie was “633 Squadron”. The movie had a tremendous and ever-lasting effect on a young mind - ever since that movie, I always tended to identify anything good with America and anything against America as evil (this sadly included my own country’s communist party). It took some 30 years to wear out that effect as I travelled more and read more.
